Matte kitchen cabinet finishes are quite popular for a variety of reasons.
On matte kitchen cabinets fingerprints, scratches, and other flaws, for example, are much less evident than on gloss-finish kitchen cabinet doors. Regardless of the material, the cabinet finish you choose will give a completely different aesthetic.
Matte kitchen cabinet finishes have a number of advantages.
- It is fashionable. At the present, the matt finish on kitchen cabinets is gaining popularity, and in kitchen design, this finish is favoring the surfaces, looking for a difference after years of shine dominance.
- It doesn’t leave any traces. Compared to glossy materials, matte materials are more resistant to fingerprints and daily grime. Because they reflect little or no light, no flaws are visible at first glance, and fingerprints are not left behind. This is something that can happen with satin or high-gloss finishes. Gloss finishes, on the other hand, have a smoother surface and are easier to clean, as previously said.
- It’s pleasant to the touch. If there’s one thing we can count on with a matte kitchen, it’ll be a lovely touch and warmth that other finishes lack.

Materials for Matte Kitchen Cabinets
1. Laminate
Laminate is one of the most common materials for matte kitchens. Particle core or MDF core boards are laminated using it (depending on the application – MDF core is better for doors and particle core for cabinets).
For modern kitchens, we suggest Fenix NTM, an Italian laminate that is exceptionally durable and has a flawless super matte finish. It reflects very little light and is anti-fingerprint, which means it requires less cleaning. Fenix is also a soft-touch cloth that comes in a variety of hues.
FENIX Laminates are highly resistant to scratches, abrasion, dry heat, acid-based solvents, and household reagents thanks to the incorporation of nanotechnology. 2. Paint
Matte lacquer is another matt-finish substance (or paint). You can use two types of paint for a matte kitchen: polyurethane and acrylic 2-component lacquers that are made exclusively for finishing kitchen cabinetry and millwork.
Acrylic paint has the lowest sheen of 2%, which is much lower than that of poly lacquers. Polyurethane paint has the lowest sheen of 10% (it reflects back 10% of the light). But there’s a catch: polyurethane paint has a silkier feel to it, and many people prefer it to acrylic paints, which aren’t as smooth.
Additionally, acrylic paints (not to be confused with acrylic laminates, which is entirely another thing) are more scratch-resistant, but the difference is minimal; if you scratch a painted door with a knife, the effects will be the same whether the paint is acrylic or polyurethane.
Another significant advantage of utilizing these paints is that they are formaldehyde-free.
Because of the low light reflectance, matte kitchen cabinets appear more consistent, as if they are one solid surface.
Because there is no light reflection, some of the doors appear brighter or darker than others. It has a plain and opaque appearance on the kitchen cabinets, allowing the other decorative elements to stand out. It conceals the marks of brushstrokes and the texture of the roller when applied with traditional instruments, resulting in a smooth surface free of scratches and apparent marks.
Matte surfaces in your kitchen furnishings reflect very little light, so flaws aren’t evident to the human eye, and prints aren’t marred like they are with glossy or satin finishes. Disadvantages of the matte finish on kitchen cabinets
Surfaces with a matte finish absorb light rather than reflect it. This creates a more opaque appearance. Keep in mind that because matt-finish cabinet doors don’t reflect light, they won’t help to make your space feel bigger if that’s your goal. For a small U-shaped condo kitchen, this might not be a smart idea.
